The Feast of Corpus Christi PDF Print E-mail
stillSunday, June 6, 2010 - Members of the Cathedral Parish in downtown Madison celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi today with a Eucharistic procession around St. Patrick's church. Msgr. Jim Bartylla, Vicar General of the Diocese of Madison, celebrated the 11 am Mass at St. Patrick's, and the newly ordained Deacon Jorge Miramontes gave a homily about how the Eucharist can break down division between people.

40 Days for Life Spring Vigil PDF Print E-mail

vigil_for_life_logoVigil for Life announced Wednesday that it will hold its first ever 40 Days for Life Spring vigil at the Madison Surgery Center (1 S. Park Street) from February 17 to March 28.

Unlike previous 40 Days campaigns at Planned Parenthood, this vigil will not go overnight. It will begin each morning at 6 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. Signs will be allowed, but are not mandatory for participation.

"The Lord has staved off this abomination for a year now," said VFL's Laura Karlen. "It is our prayer and our hope that 40 Days of continuous prayer in front of the Madison Surgery Center can put a permanent end to these grisly plans."

Nearly 1,000 hour-long prayer shifts will need to be filled. To schedule prayer slots, click here or visit vigilforlife.org. If you encounter technical difficulties, you can contact Steve Karlen at 608-445-2063 to register for hours. [Printable flier].

Manhattan Declaration PDF Print E-mail
Forty Catholic bishops, including Madison's Bishop Morlino, have signed the Manhattan Declaration. This document was created in defense of three fundamental truths:
  • manhattan-declarationthe sanctity of human  life
  • the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife
  • the rights of conscience and religious liberty

Over 200 religious leaders and 390,000 others have already signed the declaration, with a goal of 1 million signatures.

Christmas Caroling PDF Print E-mail

Madison Catholics are getting ready for Christmas this year by singing. Many groups are putting together Christmas caroling performances around town:

  • On Saturday, December 19th, a number of Catholic music groups met at Hilldale Mall to sing Gregorian chant and Christmas carols. Participants included members of the Knights of Divine Mercy Schola, the Holy Redeemer Schola, St. Ambrose Academy, several seminarians, and St. Norberts parish in Roxbury.   • On Sunday, December 20th, Madison's Diocesan Choir perfomed their annual "Lessons and Carols", a program of Christmas carols and Scripture readings.

  • Madison's Relevant Radio will be featuring a local show, "Christmas in Our Town", which showcases Christmas music from around town. Tune into 1240 AM at 2pm on Christmas Eve, 8am on Christmas morning, or 9am the day after Christmas.
  • The downtown parish choirs will be performing before Christmas Eve Masses: 20 minutes before the 5:00pm Mass at Holy Rdeemer, and starting 11:25pm at St. Patrick church (before Bishop Morlino's Christmas Midnight Mass).

Invitation to Prayer and Fasting PDF Print E-mail
ol-guadalupeBishop Robert Morlino invites the faithful of the Diocese of Madison to pray and fast for three days, December 9th through 11th, to ask "our Lord for a restored respect and protection of the vulnerable among us, particularly, but not limited to, each and every preborn child." Fasting from food, drink, television, or Internet is encouraged. Bishop Morlino especially emphasizes prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast is celebrated on December 12th.

The Bishop's request comes at a time when the Senate is negotiating unprecedented healthcare legislation which could include coverage for abortion. In this hope-filled Advent season, please join us in prayer and fasting for the protection of all human life.

Fr. Rocky at Relevant Radio Catholic Business Association PDF Print E-mail
Relevant-Radio-CBA-KickoffMonday, November 30, 2009 - Madison's Relevant Radio 1240 held the first kick-off Catholic Business Association meeting at the Bishop O'Connor Catholic Pastoral Center. The meeting began with open networking and refreshments, followed by a talk by "Fr. Rocky" (Fr. Francis Hoffman), Relevant Radio's Senior Director of Mission, Programming, and Development. Fr. Rocky spoke about the experiences and struggles of Catholic business people, Relevant Radio's mission, and some of the ways Catholic Radio can reach out and touch lives.

Relevant Radio 1240 started the Madison Catholic Business Association chapter following the successful implementation of similar associations in Milwaukee and Racine/Kenosha. The next CBA meeting will be February 9, 2010, and will feature speaker Dave Durand, founder of Pro-Balance. St. Ambrose Academy 2009 Benefit Dinner PDF Print E-mail
Bishop Morlino is back for the Third Annual St. Ambrose Academy Christmas Benefit Dinner and Auction on Friday, December 11. Cost is set at

The evening features a silent auction, elegant dinner, live Christmas music, a spirited student presentation, and raffle. The night will begin with a cocktail hour and the opening of the silent auction. Guests may browse the silent auction while enjoying cocktails and hor d’oeuvres. Dr. John P. Milbauer, pianist, and the St. Ambrose schola, led by Marilyn Zipsie, will entertain guests throughout the evening with Christmas carols and other songs. Dinner, a humorous skit written and performed by St. Ambrose students, and a raffle of various gift baskets will follow.
